International Tagus

The international stretch of the Tagus River, together with its main tributaries — the Aravil, Erges and Pônsul rivers — covers an area of almost 26,500 hectares. Between these watercourses lies a gently rolling plateau, where the land is covered by natural dryland pastures interspersed with holm oaks, cork oaks and a few olive groves.

It is also here, in one of the natural parks where Wildlife Portugal runs its activities, that one of the most iconic spectacles of Portuguese wildlife takes place: the roaring of the red deer, which echoes through the valley and the oak woodlands on both sides of the river.
