Naturtejo Geopark

The Naturtejo UNESCO Geopark was the first geopark to be created in Portugal. Although it covers a vast territory with numerous geosites, one of its highlights is the Penha Garcia Ichnological Park, located on the northern slope of the village, including the Pónsul river valley, shaped by steep quartzite rock slopes that form part of the Serra do Ramilo range.

The ichnofossils of Penha Garcia stand out for their abundance, quality of preservation and ease of observation, making this geosite one of the most iconic spots in the Geopark.
